1 Simple Diode Tutorial

Diode is one of the simplest device yet play a very vital role in electronics.A diode is a two terminal electronic device that allows only the flow of electricity in one direction.One of good analogy of a diode is a one way road were the flow of traffic (electricity) is a one direction only.

Diode has two terminals the anode or the positive terminal and the cathode, or negative terminal.
Ideal diode can be considered as an ordinary switch which is on (close circuit) when the anode is connected to the positive part of battery or supply and off (open circuit) when the cathode is connected to positive of supply.
Diode forward bias (on)

Diode reverse bias (off)
common types of diode:
1. Rectifier Diode
2. LED or light emitting Diode
4. Schottky diode
5. Tunnel diode
6. SCR or silicon controlled rectifier
